Tim is a history and global studies teacher in Winnipeg, Canada. In 2021, he graduated from the University of Manitoba, completing a Master of Education degree in curriculum, teaching, and learning. In his thesis work, he explored the entanglement of teaching and learning within his global studies classroom. Recently, he shared this thinking in a chapter titled, Teasing Threads: (Dis-)Entanglement of a Global Studies Classroom in Teaching Global Citizenship (Kornelson, Balzar, & Magro, 2020).
Tim supports healthy community, citizenship, and human rights goals through education and service work. He taught community courses for the Canadian Institute for the Study of Antisemitism (CISA), which focused on human rights development and human rights within historical and contemporary contexts. He is an educator team member and consultant with Extremism and Radicalization to Violence Prevention in Manitoba (ERIM)—a Public Safety-Community Resilience funded project—that educates against hate and extremism leading to radicalization to violence. Recently, he accepted the call to be an advisory board member with the Manitoba Writing Project (MBWP)—a National Writing Project (NWP) associated site. This work involves a network of teachers, university faculty, researchers, writers, and community educators working to advance writing and the teaching of writing and writing as, and for, social justice and human rights.
Tim received the Learners’ Teacher Recognition Award from the University of Manitoba Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning in 2014 and the Betty A. Nicks Fellowship in Education for academic merit and service work in 2017.
